Live oak, post oak, and quartz stone from clients' land
dimensions 8'-0"h x 5'-0"w
made for Griffin Davis and Heather Keating
These doors required a technical feat. Griffin and Heather were building the house of their dreams. They wanted their new doors to contain lumber from fallen trees on their land. That was not difficult. Texas Kiln Products provided the milling and kiln-drying. Live oak lumber is gorgeous and exotically figured. However, it is notoriously unstable. It won't stay flat, which is not good for doors. I milled the live oak to 1/4" thickness and glued it to a marine-grade substrate, first covering the egdes of the plywood with live oak nosing. The doors look like solid lumber, but are shop-built composites that stay very flat indeed.
Griffin and Heather also found large quartz rocks on the property. I located a lapidary who sliced the stones to 3/8" thick and polished the surfaces.
I designed the doors with a woven pattern of structural rails. Light passes through the glass and quartz panels. Visitors can be seen from afar, descending the hill to the entry way.

This is an Anderson/Wise project that we worked on over the course of 1 1/2 years. We did all the ornamental and architectural metalwork in the home as well as some structural steel retaining walls that elevated the backyard 4' above the adjacent yards to allow for installation of an ingound pool. Some of the a work that we are most proud of is the cantilevered garage awning, the outdoor fireplace, the simple curved handrail and the front fencing with custom pedestrian and driveway gates. The fencing panels were recycled from a church in Pennsylvania and were made from wrought iron, a material which has not been produced for almost 100 years. The fence panels date back to the 1870's.

made for Evans
The Evans home is a very modern structure - built on a cliff in the Northwest Hills.
The project started with a wall to wall shelving system for the Weaving Room.
Downstairs a home entertainment center equipment cabinet was built to fit a long list of components.
A Living Room niche cabinet held the cable box, newspapers and magazines.
Outside of the guest bedroom - a Privacy Screen Fence made of ipe was built to spare the guests from a view of the neighbor's drive way....
Outdoor spaces are transitions between your house and the world.....
they greet you on arrival, and provide a sanctuary or a buffer - to make a statement or
to purely enjoy being outside.
