Griffin Doors

Griffindoor1

Live oak, post oak, quartz stone, and tempered glass
dimensions 8'-0"h x 5'-0"w

made for Griffin Davis and Heather Keating

May 2009

Griffin and Heather were building a new house.  They wanted entry doors made of live oak lumber, from fallen trees on their Hill Country land.  They asked for transparency, so guests could see the view through the house while approaching.   Also, they wanted to use thin panels of quartz, from rocks found on their property.

The door design is a repeating pattern based on small modules of 3", the size limit of the quartz.    The doors look like solid lumber but are laminated composites of 1/4"-thick live oak veneer.

Burnett residence

Iron and Steel

made for Dr. and Mrs. Burnett

August 2011

This is an Anderson/Wise project that we worked on over the course of 1 1/2 years.  We did all the ornamental and architectural metalwork in the home as well as some structural steel retaining walls that elevated the backyard 4' above the adjacent yards to allow for installation of an ingound pool.  Some of the a work that we are most proud of is the cantilevered garage awning, the outdoor fireplace,  the simple curved handrail and the front fencing with custom pedestrian and driveway gates.  The fencing panels were recycled from a church in Pennsylvania and were made from wrought iron, a material which has not been produced for almost 100 years.  The fence panels date back to the 1870's.

Projects for Castleview Productions

Castleview Reception Desk

Maple, steel, recycled plastic, salvaged stainless steel

made for Castleview Productions

March 2009

These projects were commissioned by Castleview Productions for their new office in central Austin. We designed these projects to meet their budget, and we built and delivered everything to meet their time frame. During the design phase, they gave us plenty of room to use our imaginations. To keep costs down, we specified stained maple, painted formaldehyde-free mdf, and ordinary steel. And we even used a salvaged stainless steel refrigerator door for the bar in the kitchen!
