Nebraska State Capitol

The Nebraska State Capitol, designed by Bertram Goodhue, is something of a legend. My wife Pamela and I just returned from Lincoln, visiting my folks. We saw this jewel of a building, and I need to share it with the Guild. Built between 1922 and 1932, the Capitol has more hand made artisan work than any public building east of Washington D.C. The motifs are deliberately based on old-world Europe, new-world American Indian, and scenes of Nebraska history and paleontology.
What impresses me beyond the quality and thoughtfulness of the ornament is the fact that the state government invested so much effort into this building, began in the heydays of the 1920's but completed during the Great Depression. The Nebraska State Capitol reflects the tremendous pride that the citizens and their government endowed into this place.
